February 4, 2020 - The State Commission for Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, a participatory body for biodiversity issues represented by the State Administration and the Autonomous Communities, has proposed including the wolf in the List of Wild Species under Special Protection. This would standardize the species' protection status nationwide and mean it would no longer be considered a game species. Until now, only populations south of the Duero River were included on the list, while those in the north were considered game in some autonomous communities.
