Marbled teal breeding declines by 35% in 2023 due to drought

The breeding rate of the Marbled Teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris) recorded in Spain in 2023 decreased by 35% compared to the previous season due to the severe drought affecting the species' breeding areas, especially in the southern Iberian Peninsula. Last year, 480 chicks were recorded, approximately a third fewer than in 2022, when the number reached 740, thus halting the upward trend of recent years.
