The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) population in Spain and Portugal reached a new record high in 2024, reaching 2,401 registered individuals. This figure represents a 19% increase in their populations between 2023 and 2024 and demonstrates a continued positive demographic trend over the past 20 years of monitoring and actions aimed at reducing their risk of extinction. The precise data from this new census are included in the report prepared by the Iberian lynx working group, coordinated by the General Directorate of Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and composed of representatives from the Spanish autonomous communities and the Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation (ICNF) of Portugal.
